Divers didn’t know where to look!

It was another hot day in paradise when the new guests boarded the S/Y Philippine Siren in Puerto Princesa on the island of Palawan in the Philippines. With boat, cabin and safety briefings out of the way, they started setting up their dive gear and getting ready for the five and a half days of diving in the Tubbataha Reefs National Park. The representatives of the park came on board for their briefing on the dos and don’ts once in the water, and after that we started the 12 hour trip to the north atoll where we would do the first dive the next day.

The Philippine Siren was very excited to start this new trip! This was the first trip of the Tubbataha Reef season, with a little extra add-on of Southern Visayas dive sites. The 13 night trip would take us from Cebu, via Cabilao, Balicasag and Apo islands, Dauin and Cagayancillo to Tubbataha Reef, and would terminate in Puerto Princesa on Palawan Island. Not bad, not bad at all, we thought!

Departing from Malapascua, the Philippine Siren crew welcomed on board a happy group of divers all ready to dive in Malapascua and the Visayas! Our first diving day began at lovely Calanggaman Island. Picture a perfect stretch of beach in a turquoise blue sea and you’ll probably come up with something looking like this little dot on the map, South of Malapascua. We dived two dives and found longnose hawksfish, orangutan crab and the first nice nudibranchs of the trip. The afternoon and the night dives we did at Chocolate Island where the highlights included the soft corals, Spanish dancers, starry night octopuses and a swimming big black giant frogfish.

From pygmy seahorses to thresher sharks! This is Philippines!

The Philippine Siren welcomed a group of divers coming from all over the world! Germany, France, Kuwait, and the US. All the ingredients were there for a great 10-days liveaboard adventure diving in the Southern Visayas.
The first day of diving we spent around Cabilao Island. This picture perfect tropical island is famous for its fields of soft coral on the shallow plateau, and for the Denise Pygmy Seahorses that live in the Gorgonians on the dramatic steep walls. We started the day of with a check dive to get everybody comfortable in the water again. After that we continued with three more great dives. The catch of the day: Denise Pygmy Seahorse, hunting Trevallies, Reef Squid, Bobtail Squid, and a Spanish Dancer. After the last dive the captain drove the boat over to Oslob for the night.

Purple anthias, different kinds of damsels and fusiliers were colouring the scenery, while we were finding many types of nudibranchs. We also found a ringed pipefish carrying eggs, which was very special.

Another day of more fun diving in the Philippines!

Another day of more fun diving in the Philippines!

It was a beautiful and hot day when sixteen guests boarded the Philippine Siren liveaboard in Mactan, Cebu. After lunch on board we started the first leg of our travel around the Southern Visayas and headed for Cabilao Island where we would dive the next day. The trip was a charter of the Swiss agent Dive and Travel, completed by two ladies from Australia, and one from Hawaii, US. The two Swiss guests Andreas and Susanne had booked this liveaboard adventure as their honeymoon. That set us especially in a celebrative mood and it made the team proud that the lovely couple had chosen the S/Y Philippine Siren as a destination for their special trip.
