Great macro dives in the Southern Visayas!

The Philippine Siren Liveaboard welcomed 16 diver guests aboard in Mactan, Cebu Island. For its 10th anniversary the UK dive shop Mulberry Divers filled the Blue O Two charter with a lovely bunch of people. All the ingredients were there for a great 10-days diving liveaboard adventure in the Southern Visayas.

Some serious dives!

Some serious dives!

The Philippine Siren Liveaboard welcomed on board a group of enthusiastic divers from all over the world. All ready to have a great week with us diving the Philippines!
At night the captain started the engine and we left for the gorgeous island Cabilao, where we arrived at sunset. The world class dive sites around Cabilao lived up to their reputation. We found denise pygmy seahorses in an enormous Gorgonian and were awed by all the corals on the walls. A funny mixture of banana nudi’s and orangutan crabs made for more great dives. After a splendid night dive we moved over to Balicasag Island.

Diving the Visayas from Malapascua to Cebu means big and small at the same time!

The Philippine Siren welcomed on board daring band of divers travelling from parts afar to the tropical Islands of the Visayas in the Philippines. United by their passion for traveling and underwater life, the disperate group quickly bonded on the back deck of the phinisi style dive boat, the S/Y Philippine Siren, over some drinks and a warm Filipino welcome from the crew.

Diving the Southern Visayas of the Philippines means great macro, corals, whale sharks and thresher sharks!

The Philippine Siren Liveaboard was once again ready to welcome on board a group of enthusiastic divers. All very excited to dive the Southern Visayas of Philippines!

First stop, Cabilao! The dive sites around Cabilao had amazing corals, where we found painted frogfish, lionfish, juvenile harlequin sweetlips and many nudibranchs. There were four ‘die hards’ who came back from the night dive at Cambaquiz saying that there was too much to see because everybody could point out crazy creatures at the same time.

Philippines Diving on board the Philippine Siren Liveaboard is always great fun!

Philippines Diving on board the Philippine Siren Liveaboard is always great fun!

On Friday 19th June it was time once again for me to escape the office and join the crew onboard Philippine Siren for a trip. After meeting our guests in Atmosphere Resorts, Dauin we headed onboard for the welcome drinks and for the guests to be introduced to their Cruise Director – Enrico. Once all the briefings were done with we headed round to a safe anchorage for the night and enjoyed dinner and a drink or two, as we all got to know each other.

The Philippine Siren liveaboard is back to Southern Visayas

The Philippine Siren liveaboard is back to Southern Visayas

With three months in Tubbataha, the crew on the Philippine Siren was eager to see what the Southern Visayas route was going to offer, and after four days of maintenance we all just needed some real action: in Mactan a charter of American customers joined us on the 11th of June to enjoy just that, sticking their nose in the mud for some hairy creatures. And turtles. And corals. And sardines. And some more mud.

Once again: incredible dives in Tubbataha with the Philippine Siren!

Once again: incredible dives in Tubbataha with the Philippine Siren!

May 2015: half of the Tubbataha season is behind us already, and with much excitement we leave Puerto Princesa under a full moon promising strong currents and high fish activity. With us, after many Europeans, is an entire group from United States. Their late landing time forced us to leave the harbor at sunset, and the challenge of setting up the dive gear in dusk is expertly undertaken by our crew.

The group is full of experienced divers who just finished a week of diving in Puerto Galera, so we decide to head straight towards Jessie Beazley Reef and give them a taste of pelagic life. After the first sharks and tunas, we cross the waters separating us from Tubbataha North and we find our mooring for the night at Malayan Wreck.

Whale Sharks, Mantas, sharks, corals and an incredible macro! What else Tubbataha?

Whale Sharks, Mantas, sharks, corals and an incredible macro! What else Tubbataha?

For the fourth time this year , The Philippine Siren headed to Tubbataha to dive its Marine Park!

Once we arrived to the North Atoll, we dove at the Malayan Wreck: hundreds of Bumphead Parrotfish schooling welcomed us and accompanied the groups for the dive, while the weather on the surface pampered the boat with flat seas. We then proceeded to the South, not willing to let go the chance to explore the walls of the atoll with its majestic gorgonians, steep inclines and let our divers enjoy one of the finest and healthiest coral reefs in the world. The boat moored up at the southernmost tip of the South Atoll where we concluded the first day discovering Pigmy Sea Horses shortly before sunset.
